The best way to study self-discipline

The best way to study self-discipline The best way is your way. And you don’t “study” self-discipline, you practice it. It’s like swimming, you cannot “learn” it. You must get into the water and try to swim. Otherwise, you will never learn it. You must start some daily disciplines and keep doing them day after day after day. That’s how one becomes self-disciplined. However, you of course, should watch what others are doing and listen to their advice. “Be a student, not a follower. Don’t just go do what someone says. Take interest in what someone says, then debate it, ponder it and consider it from all angles.” — Jim Rohn Just don’t follow them blindly. Draw your own conclusions. I will give you a handful of tips that worked for me. By any external metric, I’m a self-disciplined man. For example, for the last 1532 days, every single day I did my short but insanely intensive (always to failure) morning workout. I never aimed to be self-disciplined per se. It ju...

Propst: Winning it all will come down to focus, self-discipline

Propst: Winning it all will come down to focus, self-discipline It’s quite possible, with no offense intended, that when it comes to the Colquitt County High football team – in any given season lately – there are teams that could not win a game against this squad even on the Packers’ worst day. Was last Friday, when Colquitt played Camden County on Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium, the worst day for the No. 1 Packers? The final score was 38-9 in favor of the home team, with 14 of the points coming in the last two minutes of regulation and all the regulars still on the turf. Half of those points were gift-wrapped in the form of a quarterback fumble returned non-stop, full-speed-ahead to the opposite end zone. The Packers had 60 first-half rushing yards and 172 for the whole game. There was the 40-yard touchdown run in those last two minutes. Names are being withheld intentionally to show that this is all about a team. College and pro stadiums feature scoreboards that can ...

How to Grow self discipline?

How to grow self discipline? I’ve been longing to write this piece for you… Why?…Because learning the latest science + methods to improve your willpower is one of the best ways to create immense success. At the base of all legendary performance in business, sports, music, relationships and life lies a strong character—born from well practiced self-control. Study Kobe Bryant and Roger Federer. Gandhi and Zuckerberg. Darwin to Gaga. They all rose to where they are via the vehicle of inner strength. You see it takes self-discipline to: –put in the 10 years of practice research like Anders Ericsson’s has taught us is the minimal amount of training time needed before genius-level performances  begin  to present themselves. –make the sacrifices needed to be made to get epic results. You can play video games for hours each day or become the undisputed master of your craft. But you can’t do both. –to be relentless and display the grit needed to stay in the game and...

Six Steps to Developing Your Self-Discipline

Six Steps to Developing Your Self-Discipline Now that you have some clarity about what self-discipline is all about let’s break down a six-step process to help you practice self-discipline. You can, of course, use this process anytime and anywhere. However, please do keep in mind that, as with any process, it can take time to get into the habit of applying it consistently to your life. Therefore,  be patient  with yourself and play the long-game when it comes to developing your self-discipline. Step 1: Define What You Want The first step of this process involves getting very clear about what it is you want to achieve. Self-discipline can only endure if it’s channeled toward something specific.  In this instance, let’s direct it toward the desired outcome you have in mind. This outcome might be a goal you want to achieve, a habit you might like to develop or any other  type of change  you might like to make. To gain clarity about what i...

What is self discipline all about?

Image
What is Self-Discipline all About? Remember back in class when your teacher told you that you must have self-discipline to succeed at school? At the time, you might’ve sarcastically rolled your eyes. However, today self-discipline probably has a little more meaning than it did back then. In fact, today, you might be here wondering what all the fuss is about. So what is self-discipline all about, really? And what does it actually mean to discipline ourselves? On the surface, self-discipline is about finding compelling reasons to do something then committing yourself to see that task or activity through to the very end. Possessing self-discipline requires having an internal desire, drive, and motivation that propels you forward toward your goal. However, this ain’t just about the  pursuit of a goal . Self-discipline is more specifically about your ability to control your desires and impulses in an attempt to stay focused (for long enough) on what needs to get don...
It’s like trying to tame a wild horse, right? The undisciplined mind can go in many directions. Check the news as soon as you wake up. Forgot to send that email yesterday— do it now ! Fifteen minutes later, you’re blaming yourself because there’s no way you have time to shower, get dressed,  and prepare your lunch to avoid eating out yet again. On the bus, your thoughts jump from worrying about the homework you did late last night, to contemplating the future and why on earth you’re studying for that degree when you don’t really care about it and you’d rather be doing something else with your life. Sounds exhausting! And yet it goes on and on, for hours and days and months and years. Why? Because you didn’t think you could do anything about it. But that’s where you’re wrong. Maybe, just maybe, there isn’t a big science about disciplining the mind. Maybe it’s just a matter of training your brain so it works  for  you instead of  against  you. So how can...
